About Us

Tanzanian Partnership

Seeking to embrace and support a mission beyond our local community, in 2006 HospiceCare formed a partnership with Bumbuli Hospice and Palliative Care in Tanzania. Since then, HospiceCare employees and volunteers have invested over $30,000 to build houses, purchase medicine, distribute nutritious food, start income-generating projects, and keep vulnerable children in school. In January 2008 and March 2011, employees traveled to Tanzania to work alongside Bumbuli’s palliative care team and learn more about the challenges they face.

Through these experiences we’ve recognized the immense need for end-of-life care in Bumbuli. We’ve also witnessed the remarkable compassion and efficiency of the team in responding to area needs. Bumbuli’s palliative care team and volunteers stretch every available resource to care for as many terminally ill individuals and vulnerable children as possible. We’re inspired and committed to supporting this impactful work. If you’d like to participate with us or want to learn more about HospiceCare’s Tanzanian partnership, please contact Carrie at 303.449.7740 or bumbuli@hospicecareonline.org.

“We met people who shared so many things with us. Compassion and empathy demonstrated through the touch of hands, the connection of understanding eyes, or true and heartfelt laughter and tears. These things transcend verbal language and speak to the heart and soul of why we work with the dying.”
— Pat Mehnert, Vice President of Clinical Services at HospiceCare

“My life has been impacted on many levels, including a new depth of understanding regarding the true impact hospice can have on not only staff and patients, but on the entire community and country as well. I rejoice in being connected with an agency that acknowledges the need for our team to connect with others in this field for both professional and personal exploration and benefit. This opportunity has changed me as a clinician and as a person.”
— Butch Froberg, Social Worker at HospiceCare
