The fourth annual Polo on the Lawn took place on June 19th and was a splendid success, raising over $170,000 to support our compassionate end-of-life care for patients and their families. An excited crowd of 380 guests cheered on four polo teams and their agile ponies during two captivating matches in which the JKW Family Trust played the HospiceCare Leadership team in the Ashlawn Cup to a hard-fought tie and Valiente defeated Balfour Senior Living in the HospiceCare Cup.
Graciously hosted by Jeff and Kim Leeper on the expansive fields of Ashlawn, their rural Longmont estate, this year’s Polo on the Lawn treated guests to a gourmet lunch provided by some of the area’s favorite restaurants, including The Bitter Bar, Colterra, Jax Fish House, Laudisio, Radda, and the West End Tavern. The highlight of each polo match was a half-time champagne divot stomp, during which spectators were invited onto the field to stamp down the divots created by the ponies’ quick turns and stops during play. In addition, guests enjoyed a best hat contest, judged by Jessica Hartman, Miss Colorado 2010. Best of all, the beautiful day was capped off by the generosity of our wonderful guests gathering to enjoy good sport and good times—all for a good cause.
